Bio
Jan Smigmator (born 1986) is a leading Czech jazz and swing singer whose style and phrasing meets the jazz classics with contemporary approach and sound.
His captivating voice, backed by top-class musicians, has earned acclaim both at home and internationally.
In 2023, he made his debut as the first Czech jazz singer at the prestigious Carnegie Hall (Zankel Hall). For the occasion, he assembled a unique ensemble featuring musicians from Tony Bennett’s band alongside leading Czech players. The sold-out concert was recorded and released as the album Jan Smigmator Live In New York.
In 2025, Smigmator successfully represented the Czech Republic at World EXPO 2025 in Ósaka, Japan. His eighteen packed shows were attended by more than 4,500 visitors and became the highlight not only of the Czech pavilion.
His discography includes seven solo albums and numerous international collaborations, most notably with legendary American tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton (album Smigmator – Hamilton: Two Tenors), Argentine singer Karen Souza and latest announced cooperation with Rubén Blades, 25 Grammy Award Winner, with whom Smigmator recorded duet for the new upcoming album Here and Now that will be released at the end of April 2026.
Jan Smigmator mostly performs with his core band - piano, drums, double-bass and saxophone, but you can also see him as guest of big bands and symphonic orchestras with his Swingphonic program.
